Biography

Dr. Sam Salem is an adjunct assistant professor in the Coulter School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Clarkson University.  He worked for GE Renewable Energy and GE Power in Schenectady NY for almost 20 years.  He has also worked in oil and gas industry and engineering consulting.  Dr. Salem's expertise are in the areas of renewable energy, electrical machines, power systems, lightning protection of wind facilities, new product introduction and technology management.  He is a member of the American Clean Power (ACP) task force on Electrical Systems.  He served as the US national member at the Cigre subcommittee on Electric Machines from 2006 to 2012.  Additionally, he led the Cigre working group to write a guide on “Economic Evaluation of Refurbishment/Replacement Decision on Generators”.  He participated in rewriting the IEEE Std. 67-2005 Guide for Operation and Maintenance of Turbine Generators.  He gave a series of talks and tutorials on Wind Energy at Cigre meetings in Sydney and Paris, and at the IEEE section in Schenectady NY.  Dr. Salem is a co-inventor of 22 US patents.
