Research Interests
Research in my group is primarily focused on understanding the hydration chemistry, microstructural/nanostructural property development and their influence on the early age and long term performance of sustainable infrastructural cementitious materials. Specific topics include, properties and performance of alkali activated fly ash and slag binder concrete, high volume supplementary cementitious binder concrete, cement kiln dust –slag/fly ash cement free binder concrete and other alternative binder concrete systems. We also investigate the role of nano particle addition on the hydration chemistry of these binders. Other related topics of interest are mechanism of portland and oil well cement hydration, setting kinetics of cements, and the mechanism of chemical deterioration (corrosion, alkali aggregate reaction, delayed ettringite formation ...) of novel/portland cementitious systems, and beneficial utilization of cement kiln dust (soil stabilization, controlled low strength concrete, CKD-activated alternative binder systems).
