Biography
Guangming Yao has an undergraduate degree and master degree in mathematics from Haerbin Normal University and a Ph.D. in computational mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her research concentrates on meshless method for solving differential equations and mathematical modeling. She is curious about differences on mathematics education between China and US.

Research Interests
My research interests include numerical solutions of ODEs and PDEs, radial basis functions, and related mathematical modelings and computations:
RBF-PDE. This is my primary research area where I'm investigating numerical methods using radial basis functions (RBFs) to solve various types of partial differential equations including elliptic PDEs and other time dependent PDEs. RBFs are used to discretize spatial domains on scattered data.
Awards
- NSF Award #1431882 COMPASS: CoOrdinated Math-Physics Assessment for Student Success, 2015--2017. The COMPASS (Co-Ordinated Math and Physics Assessment for Student Success) program will support a national initiative to retain STEM majors and will be designed to aid students to navigate successfully through their first year. In particular, the program will be designed to help students improve their achievements in their introductory courses and increase retention. The proposed approach combines effective educational programs tailored to specific student needs prior to their enrollment.
- Graduate Student Award, University of Southern Mississippi, two graduate students received this award per academic year, 2010.
- Excellent Graduate Student Award in Heilongjiang Province, China, 2016.
