Stacey Zeigler Named Professor Emeritus at Clarkson University
Clarkson University Clinical Professor of Physical Therapy Stacey Zeigler has been named professor emeritus for 21 years of exemplary service to the University. Formal recognition took place at commencement on May 11.
Zeigler has been a faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy at Clarkson since 2003 with the majority of these years in formal healthcare leadership and administrative roles. A licensed physical therapist and a board-certified geriatric clinical specialist, Zeigler brings 30 years of clinical experience to her students.
Zeigler’s teaching and scholarship focuses on the areas of leadership, patient autonomy, and geriatric care with more than 50 invited presentations at the local, state, national, and international levels. Her teaching focuses on practice management and cardiopulmonary physical therapy, along with specialty areas within other courses.
Zeigler’s expertise has resulted in contributions to 11 peer-reviewed publications, 30 peer-reviewed abstracts, and authorship of a peer-reviewed book chapter. She has been co-administrator of three clinically focused grants and one community-level grant, as well as a co-investigator on a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research grant for the prediction and prevention of falls in the elderly. During Zeigler’s career, she has shared her skills for collaborative networking that are necessary for success in all of these areas.
Zeigler has been a major contributor in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) within the past 15 years in both appointed and elected service positions at the local, state, and national levels. This service has included appointments to APTA workgroups advising on matters such as federal health care reform legislation, revisions to the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, and the physical therapist’s role in health promotion, fitness and wellness.
Zeigler has also served on the Clarkson University Institutional Review Board, department and University committees as well as her current community participation on the board of directors for the Northern Area Health Education Council (NAHEC). She feels strongly that connections between the University, the profession of physical therapy, and the local community are necessary for innovations to occur. She has demonstrated her commitment to these connections through collaborative research and presentations with faculty from the Clarkson School of Engineering, the Center for Rehabilitation Engineering Science and Technology, and School of Business, as well as through continued clinical consultation as a physical therapist for Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley and her own private practice, Fun in Aging Physical Therapy, providing in-home service for older adults of our community.

Zeigler earned her doctor of physical therapy degree from Simmons College, her Ph.D. in interdisciplinary bioscience and biotechnology from Clarkson, her master of science in community health administration and wellness promotion from California College for Health Sciences, bachelor of science in physical therapy from the State University of New York Health Science Center, and two associates degrees from Jefferson Community College.
