Clarkson University Student Presents Research at North American Power Symposium
Devin Hodoroski, a junior Honors Student and Electrical Engineering major from Schenectady, NY recently published a paper for the North American Power Symposium (NAPS 2023) conference in Asheville, NC, titled “Impact of Climate Change on Long-Term Load Forecasting: Case Studies in New York State” under the direction of advisor Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering Leo Jiang. The research highlighted in the paper looks at how rising temperatures, which result from climate change, will impact the power grid, specifically the load demand.
At the NAPS 2023, Hodoroski got the opportunity to interact with numerous peers doing work related to power as well as several companies/Foundations including Duke Energy, EATON, IEEE PES, NSF, Center for Cyber Security Research, AEGIS, NRC, and TRC.
During these interactions through talking and listening to several technical talks and presentations, Hodoroski was able to further develop their knowledge in the power engineering field and gain connections they otherwise would not have been able to. They also got the opportunity to present their research. This not only gave Hodoroski the opportunity to tell others about the work they had been doing but also to gain feedback and thoughts through their questions.
The Honors Educational Enhancement Scholarship (HEES) gives up to $2,000 for activities that further student development such as for the NAPS research conference. This scholarship allowed Hodoroski to have this amazing learning opportunity to expand their professional development as well as their educational development.
