Clarkson to Host North Country Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair Oct. 28
The Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley and Paul Smith’s College are pleased to announce that the annual North Country Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair will take place on October 28 at Clarkson University.
This event is a true academic-community initiative to celebrate, share and learn about sustainability initiatives and opportunities on our campuses and in our communities. Along with workshops, exhibitors, and posters, this year’s Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair will have two keynote speakers.
Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair will kick off with a virtual keynote by Talking Rivers. Talking Rivers, the artist and activist couple Blake Lavia and Tzintzun Aguilar-Izzo, put together a symposium series titled Listening to Water that started in August 2023 and will go until November. This Symposium series has involved workshops, talks, events and art exhibits that have explored the Rights and Rites of Nature.
The virtual panel presentation called Waters Have No Borders: Working Together for the Great River and the Great Lakes will be the first of two keynote talks occurring during this year’s Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair. The panel will occur virtually on October 27 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The four panelists include Kerry-Ann Charles, Jerome Marty, Heather Stirratt, and Abraham Francis, who is currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering at Clarkson University.

The second keynote talk for the 2023 Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair will occur on October 28 at 3:30 p.m.
Dr. Curt Stager, an esteemed Paul Smith’s College Professor of Natural Sciences, is an author, radio co-host, and a science journalist focusing on ecology, paleoclimatology. His diverse background and communication skills have enabled him to contribute immensely to the long-term sustainability of the Adirondacks.
He will speak about how climate change is affecting plants, animals, and people in the Adirondacks and what to expect in the future. This keynote talk will occur in the Student Center Forum at Clarkson University.
In addition to the keynote speakers on Friday night and Saturday, there will be exhibitors, including several electric vehicles on display, workshops, student poster presentations, and more from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday as part of Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair.
