How to Join ROTC
To join ROTC, you simply enroll in the class through the registrar. Anyone can take ROTC academic classes, but to be eligible as a member of the Cadet Corps, you must meet the following criteria:
Eligibility Requirements
- be enrolled in one of the Associated Colleges (Clarkson, St. Lawrence, Potsdam or Canton)
- participate in both Aerospace Studies classes and Leadership Lab (Air Force ROTC)
- be a United States citizen
- be of good moral character
- males over 18 years of age must have a Selective Service Number
Next steps
Once you meet the eligibility requirements, you can pursue membership in ROTC. After you sign up for classes, you will need to fill out an application for membership, as well as some additional documentation. This information certifies that you are eligible for membership. You will also be required to furnish the following for your personnel records:
- original or notarized copy of birth certificate
- original, signed Social Security Card
- copy of immunization records
- copy of SAT/ACT scores
- official high school transcript
- official transcripts of any previous college work
What Else?
To activate a scholarship (start receiving funds) or to join the Professional Officer Course (POC; junior and senior cadets), you will be enlisted in the inactive reserves and incur a commitment to the U.S. Air Force or Army. Freshman scholarship cadets do not incur a commitment. When you enlist, you will need to pass the following:
- academic eligibility standards
- Department of Defense Medical Evaluation Review Board (DoDMERB) physical
- Air Force Officer Qualification Test (AFOQT; AFROTC only)
- physical fitness test
- height/weight standards
