Hansen will present “From Data to Human Impact: Finding Purpose Through Leadership, Innovation, and Service” from noon to 12:50 p.m. in CAMP 194. The talk is part of Clarkson’s David A. Walsh Seminar Series and is free and open to the public.

Hansen’s path to Clarkson was anything but traditional. Adopted from South Korea, he graduated from high school with a 2.1 GPA and joined the U.S. Army at 17. He later served at Fort Drum before earning an Army Green to Gold scholarship that brought him to Clarkson.

Hansen credits his Clarkson education with transforming his confidence and teaching him to research complex problems, analyze evidence, challenge assumptions and turn ideas into action. Those skills became a foundation for a career addressing complex challenges in military health care and other organizations.

His work has included managing large datasets, workforce analytics, automation and financial recovery efforts, including initiatives that generated millions of dollars in cost avoidance and recovered revenue.

Hansen has also applied his experience to humanitarian and international efforts. He has helped Korean adoptees search for biological relatives using DNA technology, contributed to efforts supporting ethical international adoption practices and Korean War veterans, and helped advance plans for a science and technology university in Kenya.

During his Clarkson talk, Hansen will explore the intersection of data, leadership and human purpose, including why technology alone cannot solve some of the most important challenges facing organizations and communities.

The event offers members of the Clarkson and North Country communities an opportunity to hear how an unconventional path through education, military service and leadership shaped Hansen’s approach to using technology and data to make a human impact.
