Lou Ann Lange, assistant professor history in Clarkson University’s School of Arts & Sciences, was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award during the University’s 117th commencement ceremony today.
The award was created in 1960 to recognize "the importance of superior teaching." Clarkson University alumni nominate candidates and the recipient of the $1,500 award is chosen by a faculty committee.
Lange received her bachelor of arts degree in history from Washington University in St. Louis in 1969. In 1972, she received a master of arts in American history from Brown University, Providence, R.I. She completed her Ph.D. in American intellectual history from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 1982.
Since coming to Clarkson, Lange has taught a wide variety of courses in the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences. Her current teaching and reading interests are in antebellum American history and contemporary western warfare.
Lange was a Fulbright lecturer in Romania in 2006-2007, a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminar participant at the Newberry Library in Chicago in 2003, and completed the U.S. Military History Instructors’ Course at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., in January 2010.
